Cadet Joseph Mack Johnson was thrilled as he landed at the Denebola Space Station. Readmitted as a cadet into the fighter-track of the D.S.F.A., Joe expected his problems were over. He was wrong.

After entering the space station’s academy section, he was stripped of his medals and learned he was only conditionally readmitted. Then Admiral Rogers forced the academy to give Joe the Red Cs to wear. Called the coward’s Cs—anyone wearing them was despised.

Joe couldn’t understand what happened until he saw his service record. Almost everything was classified. The only entries not classified were his court-martial convictions. Everyone would now assume the worst…that he ran.
